ACLU alleges Orange County Sheriff denied immigration detainees access to documents, leading to deportations

Trump cuts off visas for countries that refuse deported immigrants
The Trump administration announced Wednesday it has ordered the State Department to limit certain visas for Cambodia, Eritrea, Guinea, and Sierra Leone because those countries have refused to accept the return of its nationals who are deported from the United States. -- "International law obligates each country to accept the return of its nationals ordered removed from the United States," Acting Secretary of Homeland Security Elaine Duke said in a statement. "Cambodia, Eritrea, Guinea, and Sierra Leone have failed in that responsibility. The United States itself routinely cooperates with foreign governments in documenting and accepting its citizens when asked, as do the majority of countries in the world. However, these countries have failed to do so, and that one-way street ends with these sanctions."......

DACA Fix vs. DREAM Act: Moving the Goalposts
The press and politicians have been talking about DACA and the DREAM Act interchangeably, but they're different things, and the difference matters a lot. -- When the administration announced last week that it was winding down Obama's illegal Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program (that gives two-year renewable work permits to illegals who claim to have arrived before age 16), it threw the issue over to Congress, where it belongs. -- But fixing the specific problem of 690,000 people who applied in good faith for Obama's illegal program, and whose work permits will start expiring after March 5, is very different from passing a DREAM Act amnesty from scratch......

If you grew up in, say, Long Beach, and were told you need to move to, say, Mexico City, how would you go about it? -- Some version of that question is being fielded this week by officials at the Mexican consulate in Santa Ana, as young Mexican nationals who have been protected by the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program call for information in the wake of the Trump administration's move to sunset DACA over the next six months. -- What the callers learned was that Mexico will offer help --- in housing and job placement and even Spanish language lessons --- even as the Mexican government lobbies the U.S. Congress on behalf of young people they consider all but officially American.......

DACA and Dreamers: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
The Democrat/liberal crisis of the moment has changed. Since President Donald Trump ordered the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) suspended last week, DACA has totally blown the Russian election collusion (that was fervently hoped for, but didn't cause Hillary Clinton's self-destructive campaign to fail) off their rumor sheet and whisper campaign. -- And leftists have retreated to their safe and familiar habits, and are again calling names. Trump is “cruel.” So many Democrats have used that word lately that it must have been directed from party leaders. It is suspected that in response to Trump's action the Democrat Party issued a talking point: “Say it's cruel! Say it's mean! Say it's heartless! And stick to the message!”......
