Securing the Border: Fencing, Infrastructure, and Technology Force Multipliers
[May 13, 2015 -- 02:00PM | Location: SD-342, Dirksen Senate Office Building]

Sen. Johnson: One of the charts I wanted to produce was - I wanted to lay out the border and I wanted to specify - here are the different types of fencing along the lines and I found out I can't show that because it's law enforcement sensitive. So I'll first ask Chief Vitiello why would the fencing, the quality of fencing and type of fencing and the along the border be law enforcement sensitive? I mean, that's a secret that isn't exactly secret.
Chief Vitiello: I really don't understand that as well. I think that the documents that we sent over - or that we were trading back and forth - that we were trying to prepare for today's testimony were marked - I'm not sure of the originations of those markings. I agree with you - if you live in a community that has the benefit of fencing
Sen. Johnson - That people know where it is
Chief Vitiello - People know where it is. As you begin to aggregate data like that you begin to get a picture of the southwest border and it's easier to pick out some of the vulnerabilities so that's maybe the origination of the markings but we will certainly - we will provide what we can.
Sen. Johnson - I want to see where we have our strengths and were we have our weaknesses.
